Annonce de la séance du 25 janvier 2018 : Jean-Raphaël Chaponnière sur Chine-Ethiopie
L’Ethiopie (100 millions d’habitants), qui demeure l’un des pays les plus pauvres d’Afrique et qui est également l’un de ceux qui connaissent la croissance la plus forte depuis une dizaine d’année, cherche à s’industrialiser en « invitant » les entreprises des grands pays émergents, dont la Chine. Après avoir situé cette économie, la présentation analysera sa stratégie d’industrialisation et ses résultats.

Jean Raphael Chaponniere a été ingénieur de recherche au CNRS, chercheur à l’Institute of South East Asian Studies (Singapour), expert au National Economic Board (Bangkok), chercheur invité à l’Euro-Asia Centre (Insead), conseiller économique en Corée et en Turquie, économiste à l’Agence Française de Développement et depuis 2012 chercheur associé à Asia Centre, et Asie 21 (Futuribles).

Michael K. GUSMANO (Rutgers University, Hastings Center) :
“Health Systems in BRIC Countries: ongoing resarch in an area where the stakes are high”

Victor G. Rodwin is Professor of Health Policy and Management, at the Wagner School of Public Service, New York University and Co-Director with Michael K. Gusmano of the World Cities Project, a joint venture of Wagner/NYU, the Hastings Center, and the Butler Columbia Aging Center. Before launching WCP, Professor Rodwin directed Wagner’s International Initiative (1992 to 1998). From 1983 to 1985 he was Assistant Professor of Health Policy at the University of California–San Francisco. Professor Rodwin has been a member of the Academy for Social Insurance since 1998. He reviews articles for leading journals in the field on a regular basis and has consulted with the French National Health Insurance Fund, the Paris University Hospitals (AP-HP), the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program, the World Health Organization and Blue-Cross/Blue Shield of Vermont. Professor Rodwin earned his Ph.D. in city and regional planning, and his MPH in public health, at the University of California, Berkeley.

Michael K. Gusmano, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Health Policy in the Rutgers University School of Public Health and a core member of the Institute for Health, Health Care and Aging Research. In addition to his appointments at Rutgers, Dr. Gusmano is a research scholar at the Hastings Center. His research focuses on health and health care inequalities. He has authored or co-authored four books; 25 chapters and more than 100 scholarly articles. Dr. Gusmano has a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Maryland at College Park, a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the State University of New York at Albany and was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholar in Health Policy at Yale University (1995-1997). He is the President of the Aging and Politics Group of the American Political Science Association, an Associated Editor for Health Economics, Policy and Law, the International Editor of the Journal of Aging and Social Policy and a member of the Hastings Center Report’s Editorial Committee.
